About us

Working for the Canterbury District Health Board - working for the Community. At its core, our vision is dependent on achieving a truly collaborative, 'whole of system' approach where everyone in the health system works together to do the right thing for the patient and the right thing for the system and our community as a whole.

About the role

The Canterbury Eye Service is looking for an Ophthalmology Assistant to join our busy team here in Eye Outpatients. If you are looking for a change or just wanting a new or different challenge then this could be a great opportunity. The Eye Clinic is a very busy and demanding service that is staffed by a dedicated team of Nurses, Orthoptists, Optometrists and Technicians who work closely with our highly skilled and specialised Ophthalmologists to meet the eye health needs of the people of Canterbury.

As an Ophthalmology Assistant your main responsibilities will include assisting and supporting the Registered Nurses. As part of this role you will be undertaking Visual Acuity testing, Intra-Ocular pressures, maintaining patient flows through the department and ensuring the smooth running of clinics by maintaining a safe and well stocked environment.

You will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail and organisational skills, with a proactive approach, and an ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.

Computer skills are essential for this position, and a keen interest in Ophthalmology is desirable. Please see attached position description for more details about the role.

Hours of work

This is a part time position working 32 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The Eye Clinic hours are currently 7:30am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday, so shifts will be within these hours.
