Southland Police are in the process of staring a new deployment model focusing on a collaborative approach to solving Family Harm.  The initiative is known as Whängaia Nga Pa Harakeke (WNPH).  

The purpose of the WNPH is to create a collaborative response to Family Harm based on a model where Police, Government Agencies, Social Sector Agencies and Iwi work together to reduce Family Harm. There is a focus on the over-representation of Māori as victims and offenders. One of the key goals is to create sustainable long-term change in these families.

The position will have a focus on Family Harm however there is the expectation that the role will be wide scoping and will encompass all aspects of the Whanau and assisting them to achieve better outcomes.

You will need to be a highly motivated individual and have excellent communication skills as well as a desire to partner with other agencies to work in this dynamic field.

As part of the Whängaia Nga Pa Harakeke team you will be responsible for attending and co-ordinating external agency meetings to address specific cases as well as planning and implementing safety plans for at risk persons and perpetrators as well as addressing immediate safety needs of the whanau.

The job will entail a large amount of case management and administrative duties pertaining to individual cases and information sharing to partner agencies.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • A high level of computer skills is an essential component of the role, as there is an expectation of a high level of reporting and record keeping in relation to assessment and recommendations to support agencies within the district
  • It would be very advantageous to have experience in case management tools and computer systems
  • Demonstrate an ability to work in a high preforming team
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of "Our Business" particularly in relation to family harm reduction and Prevention First strategies
