Remuneration Range $143,395 - $194,005

Applications are sought to become New Zealand Police's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), based in the Assurance Group at Police National Headquarters, in Wellington.

Working directly to the General Manager: Professionalism and Assurance, and supporting the Deputy Commissioner who holds the portfolio of Chief Security Officer, the successful appointee is expected to manage the strategic direction for information security across Police, and provide leadership around Police's implementation of the government-mandated Protective Security Requirements (PSR).  The CISO also provides functional and people leadership of the specialist Information Assurance and Security teams.

The CISO is a key member of the wider Assurance Group senior leadership team, and interacts regularly with members of the Police Executive and the Commissioner's independent Assurance and Risk Committee.   It is a visible role in the organisation, and one carrying some important responsibilities.

We are seeking someone who will be able to add further to the strengths of the Assurance Group's senior leadership team, and can work with and support other members of the Group to deliver top class assurance services.


Skills and Experience - you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain highly effective internal and external professional relationships, at a senior level
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and familiarity with, the Protective Security Requirements
  • Experience in operating at a senior level in the information security, risk advisory and/or assurance services environment. 

Special Requirements:

  • The successful applicant must possess a tertiary-level degree in a field relevant to the Assurance Group's work (for example, information management, security studies, public management, etc.).  
  • The successful applicant must also have (or be able to secure) and maintain a Government Top Secret security clearance.
  • Applicants must be a New Zealand or Australian citizen, or a New Zealand resident, or have a valid New Zealand work visa to apply for this position.
