Job Description

The Department of Corrections is committed to the provision of psychological approaches to the management of offending behaviour and is recognised internationally as being leaders in this field.

 

The Senior Adviser Psychology provides information and advice to key internal and external stakeholders on matters related to the delivery of high quality psychological services to offenders.  In this role you will respond to queries from regional and Special Treatment Unit (STU) staff regarding psychological processes, and maintain and update key operational documents including the Psychologist's Operations Manual used by Psychologists who work with offenders in the community, mainstream prisons and Special Treatment Units.
 
 
A key part of this role is to review Court and Parole Board decisions as well as legislative changes and provide advice as to how this might relate to psychological best practice.
 
 
The role will also require you to respond to requests from other agencies, making sound recommendations, ensuring the quality and integrity of the delivery of psychological services and provision of information about individual offenders.
 
 
Furthermore, you will be involved in the design and development of National Practice frameworks ensuring quality across programmes.
 
 
The successful applicant will have:
  • A minimum of Master's Degree in Psychology
  • Hold a current practicing certificate as a Registered Psychologist
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice sector and relevant legislation and policies
  • Excellent communication, written and problem solving capability
  • Excellent understanding on research methodologies
  • Desire to utilise their psychological skills in a National Office Environment
