Ara Woolston Campus is the leading South Island provider for Trades training and plays an essential role in the revitalisation of Christchurch and the Canterbury region. Our Trades Campus located in Woolston provides well equipped, practical learning facilities for a wide variety of trade disciplines.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and skilled practitioner to join our Trades campus team as an Automotive Tutor.  You will need to be a fully qualified and experienced individual for this role in order to deliver the National Certificate programmes within the Automotive Engineering domain.

The Role

This role offers a broad range of opportunities to work with people of all ages in a varied number of strands of education. At Ara Automotive we deliver to school students who are exploring vocational opportunities, full time students who have committed to joining the trade, apprentices who are learning in the trade through to qualified trades people who are looking to up skill. Combined with this range of learners, Ara Automotive has one of the widest range of delivery sites spreading right throughout the Canterbury region.

The primary focus of this role will be to deliver the fundamental automotive trade skills to groups of learners who are near the start of their journey to an automotive apprenticeship or career.  This learning will be delivered in well-equipped facilities through excellent educational practices.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a skilled practitioner in the Automotive industry with a significant amount of recent practical experience who is looking to take a new step and give back to their trade by passing on their extensive knowledge to our students.

While teaching experience or experience training apprentices would be distinct advantage, at Ara Institute of Canterbury we also value your skills and hands-on experience. Our tutors are well supported in these rewarding teaching roles and are assisted in gaining a formal teaching qualification.

You must have:

  • A passion for your Trade

  • Current industry/discipline knowledge
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in the automotive industry. This could include both heavy or light automotive engineering
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • A genuine desire to educate and mentor students

Preference will be given to those with skills in automotive electrical (including hybrid or full electric) and experience in common rail diesel and late model technologies.

Benefits

Ara offers you excellent conditions of employment, and the rewards of working in a progressive education environment which is responsive to the needs of students and employers.
