Knowledge Advisor- Information Librarian

Christchurch, City Campus

Fixed Term, Full time (back-fill for Parental Leave Cover)


  • Support academic staff by providing targeted information services
  • Provide expertise in the collection and management of learning resources

Academic Services Division

The Academic Services Division aims are to ensure Ara can, and is, delivering quality learning, teaching, and research. This includes what and how Ara delivers these. Academic Services Division provides guidance systems and processes, direct development support, capability services, quality assurance services and processes, and, academic audit oversight.

The Learning Design Team is located within the Academic Services Division. The vision of the Learning Design Team is to enhance learner success by leading & supporting the Ara community to develop, implement & review quality teaching and learning.

The Role

Join our professional and proactive Learning Design team. As the Knowledge Advisor- Information Librarian you will lead the department's access and implementation strategies for fit for purpose resources, teaching tools and technologies. You will develop professional relationships with academic staff and provide appropriate and targeted information services to support their teaching and research.

You will work in programme design teams as a learning resource expert and support staff in the development of learning activities and resources. You will be an enthusiastic user of technology and also be proactive in instigating and developing professional relationships.


  • Proactively identify and evaluate  sources and/or develop tools and resources to support quality teaching & learning
  • Build, evaluate and maintain a collection of Open Education Resources to support Ara staff and students learning.
  • Lead the development & curation of the institution's resource repository (Te Kete/Equella)
  • Create resources and improve procedures to increase staff awareness about their legal obligations under copyright legislation
  • Deliver & provide advice on steps towards modernizing products & resources
  • Provide training & create resources for academic staff capability development


  • Tertiary level qualification or equivalent experience
  • Professional library qualification
  • Extensive experience in delivering professional library services and research support in a tertiary academic library environment
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of collection development and information services for a tertiary library
  • Knowledge and experience of learning technologies
