Evidence-Based Policing is about using information, crime-science and problem-solving methods to ensure that proven approaches and tactics inform our choices, are seen in the results, and provide confidence that what we do works. Evidence-Based Policing presents an opportunity for New Zealand Police to embed an evidence base into all of our operations. This is a great opportunity to join the new team and to contribute to the formation of the newly created Evidence-Based Policing Service Centre.

The centre itself is made up of a number of specialised teams (including Delivery & Improvements and Implementation & Evaluation) that together will contribute to a multi-disciplinary and integrated approach  to the delivery of high quality and innovative work. As the Research Insights Advisor you are positioned within the Performance & Research Insights Team. The team itself delivers the majority of the relevant academic research, statistical and performance information for EBP projects and the organisation.

The ideal candidate will be required to work collaboratively and seamlessly with other EBP teams and specific project teams across EBP to deliver integrated, high quality and innovative work. Critical to the role is to work closely with others to identify, scope, design, deliver and analyse the results of EBP projects. The role requires both qualitative and quantitative research and analysis for EBP projects, as well as providing the applied research expertise into the EBP team to deliver valid results and meaningful insights which inform the development of EBP within Police.


Skills & Experience:


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A strong background and understanding of research and analysis with quantitative and qualitative data
  • Skilled user of software data analysis tools
  • Project management skills an advantage
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of academic research and evaluation protocols
  • Sound understanding of a range of research of behavioural methodologies
  • Experience interpreting data from an operational environment would be an advantage
  • Experience undertaking all stages of research and analysis
