Senior Telecommunications Engineer

Wellington District

Permanent, Full Time

Salary Range $83,329 - $112,741

The High Tech Crime Group is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Engineer.  This role will give you a unique opportunity to work and develop in a key growth area and you will be exposed to technologies and concepts that few other organisations can offer.

 

This position involves conducting compliance testing and developing testing methodologies to ensure network operators meet their legislative requirements under the Telecommunications Interception Capability and Security Act 2013 (TICSA). An understanding of telecommunication network architectures, technologies and standards is essential.

 

The successful candidate will need to engage with network operators and form working relationships with their technical staff to achieve compliance. They will represent Police in inter-agency and industry groups and forums. Candidates with a Telco background are preferred.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of ETSI standards as they apply in Lawful Interception
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and standards
  • Knowledge of interface language formats such as ASN.1/BER and other network capture formats such as PCAP
  • Windows/Unix experience
  • Ability to contribute to high level design of new solutions within the group alongside solution architects and technical principles
  • Be self-motivated and have excellent communication, organisation and research skills.
  • Pay attention to detail and have the flexibility to cope with change
  • Have the ability to rapidly absorb, understand and apply new concepts and technologies
  • Be capable of making sound decisions under pressure
  • Work well within a team environment
  • You will have a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved whatever is needed. This is an operationally focused group so you will need to be able switch priorities and focus quickly

 

Qualification Requirements:

  • Qualification or demonstrated ability in scripting languages would be beneficial

 

Special Requirements:

  • Must be a New Zealand or Australian citizen, or a New Zealand resident, or have a valid New Zealand work visa to apply for this position
  • To be eligible for this role you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years.  Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence/a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.  Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 10 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken.  Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed
