Multiple Positions Available

Job Requisition ID 9845

There's no employer like New Zealand Police, and we have an exciting and diverse opportunity for the right people to join our team.  We are looking for three Principal Advisers to join our Team to provide specialist advice directly to the New Zealand Police Executive.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will be part of a small Team whose purpose is to help enable the Police Executive to set the strategy for the New Zealand Police, and to support the organisation to achieve it.   You will work closely with Executive members, providing strategic and operational advice to ensure delivery of key priorities and achievement of business and operational targets.

You will help manage and resolve cross-cutting organisational challenges, and work with Executive members to ensure that executive portfolios are strategically aligned.  You will help enhance and drive collaboration, to ensure the Police Executive is well positioned to take up opportunities as they arise.

You will be known for your intellectual capability, insightful and forward looking advice.  You will be driven and passionate about making a difference for New Zealanders, and will be someone who is action oriented, results focussed and people centric.  You will have demonstrable experience in strengthening and advancing corporate governance arrangements, so that the Police Executive remains focussed on the things that matter.

Your work will interface with all facets of policing and you will play an important role in helping to shape and inform decision-making and policing services across New Zealand.  The roles will also provide a unique insight into how executives work.

Applicants must be resilient and have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.  You must be highly motivated to play an effective role in supporting the New Zealand Police to deliver on its strategy as captured in Our Business.   You must work comfortably with ambiguity and be able to analyse complex situations and policies, work effectively under pressure, and generate effective and sustainable solutions.

The ideal applicants will be high achieving problem solvers with:

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrable experience in providing advice on a diverse range of issues directly to executives
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • A solid background in government/machinery of government processes

Previous experience working in a Ministers Office and/or a background in economics or strategic finance would be advantageous.  You must have or be able to get a Top Secret Security Clearance.

Primarily though, it's your attitude and ability to bring real positive change to the daily business of the Police Executive that will drive your success.   If you want to be part of helping New Zealand to be the Safest Country and to ensure New Zealanders are safe and feel safe, then we want to hear from you.
