Job Description

  • Fixed Term until December 2021
  • Biggest event ever hosted by NZ Government
  • Wellington based

Are you interested in being part of the largest event the Government has ever hosted, that brings 20 World Leaders New Zealand?  The APEC21 planning team is looking for a Senior Business Analyst, a key role in the delivery of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

APEC involves a 12-month period of hosting from December 2020 to November 2021 and attracts up to 22,000 attendees to 12 significant events held throughout the year. APEC will bring decision-makers and leaders from across the Asia-Pacific together and will create significant opportunities for New Zealand to promote its economic interests with trading nations including China, the US and Japan.

You will be part of an all-of-government programme led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, to plan and deliver a successful Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) which New Zealand will host in 2021. We are a small but rapidly growing team, our work is varied and demanding, and your ability to identify requirements and implement processes and procedures – plus have lots of initiative - will be relied upon every day.

To be successful in this role you will be an energetic self-starter capable of working as part of an integrated team but who is sufficiently experienced to work independently and achieve results on your own. You will be a generalist business analyst who is highly capable of working across a variety of work streams including technical, logistics and security requirements.

During the host year the Senior Business Analyst role will transition into an operational role to support the delivery of the APEC events across the year.

There will be significant engagement across other agencies, including security agencies, so the person must be comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams.

We are in the early stages of a complex, cross-government programme and are laying the foundations to enable a large and diverse team to work effectively, and with agility.   The Senior Business Analyst will work alongside the project managers and worstream leads to deliver in this fast-paced development environment.

You will offer us your:

  • Experience in business process analysis.
  • Experience in requirements gathering and the preparation of requirements artefacts.
  • Experience in working in a programme/project environment and reporting to governance boards.
  • Experience in working across government agencies.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to be agile and flexible in your approach to work.
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally to fulfil job requirements.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate New Zealand Government Security clearance; and hold New Zealand citizenship.

You will be the kind of person who plans ahead to avoid last minute pressure and stress.  You will be focused on results and understand how to effectively influence people to achieve them.

This role is Wellington based.
