Job Description

Are you a practical IT person with a passion for computing who wants to take that energy into a new and exciting environment?  Do you feel like you could be doing more with your skills? Do you want the opportunity to expand those skills into other areas of IT technology? Are you interested in being part of an organisation that is committed to the security and well-being of New Zealand?

If the answer to these questions is yes, you need to seriously consider working with us at our Marlborough facility. Working here is as much about making a positive lifestyle choice as it is about carrying out satisfying, purposeful work. Whether you want to enjoy the great outdoors, raise a family or take advantage of the high sunshine hours at the centre of New Zealand's wine industry, Marlborough should be the choice for you and your family.

What you'll bring to the position:

  • A passion for computing technology with some system admin skills
  • A good understanding of the nfrastructure required to support data centre facilities
  • Relevant work experience and hopefully formal training such as a tertiary qualification.
  • Enthusiasm for solving complex problems in a customer centric environment.
  • Enjoyment working in a high functioning team.

We refer to a person with this expertise as a Cryptologic Engineer. Don't let the word ‘Cryptologic' spook you (see what we did there). It's not code breaking but you can be expected to do some unique things with your System Engineer skills.

What you get from us:

  • Unique and extremely interesting work that you don't get to do anywhere else
  • Career and training opportunities
  • Open source culture and community
  • Competitive salary appropriate to qualifications and experience
  • Private medical insurance and vision care benefits
  • We have cookies (actually scones, but you get the idea)
  • You'll never have to take your work home with you

These are some of the skills that the successful applicant will have (not all of them, but hey, we can dream right?):

  • System administration (Linux / Windows)
  • Scripting and programming
  • Virtualisation technologies
  • High availability electrical supply installations
  • Air handling / chiller systems
  • Complex multi-server processing systems (design, deploy, support)
  • Monitoring and alarm systems
  • Cloud technologies (just defining 'Cloud' would be enough)
  • Data centre support experience including racking and stacking
  • Antenna structure installation and maintenance
  • Practical electrical and electronics experience
  • Interoperability (even if you have to DIY from time to time)

It sounds like quite a mixture doesn't it? You're right, it is. This is a job where the opportunities to be involved in a wide range of technologies is extraordinary. We're not looking for the right skill set so much as the right person.

You will join a technology centric team who collectively do amazing things in a high tech environment, but you should also be comfortable solving complex problems on your own. You will know that Raspberry Pi isn't something your grandmother bakes, the EbNo isn't a river in Europe and getting your hands dirty is a sign that it's been a good day.

Level 1 - $66,387 – $82,983 per annum
Level 2 - $77,497 - $96,872 per annum
Level 3 - $89,963 - $112,421 per annum

We're a little bit different. The work is always challenging and it's important for the security of New Zealand.
