Controller and Auditor-General

The work of the Controller and Auditor-General is carried out by the Office of the Auditor-General, Audit New Zealand, and private sector auditing firms.Audit New Zealand is a stand-alone business unit.

The Controller and Auditor-General is an Officer of Parliament. Together with the Deputy, the Controller and Auditor-General has the constitutional role of safeguarding the financial integrity of New Zealand's parliamentary system of government, and is the auditor of every public entity. The role will also have chief executive responsibility for leading and managing the Office.

To be successful in this key appointment, you will have considerable leadership experience in the areas of public management, accounting or law. You will have proven understanding of and experience in the public sector. It is not essential to be an auditor; however, you must have an understanding of audit matters sufficient to exercise statutory responsibilities. You will also have sound experience leading high-performing professionals and be able to determine and implement a strategic vision.

You must possess independence of mind and the utmost integrity, display sound judgement, and have proven credibility and resilience. You will have the ability to develop excellent relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders at the highest level.
