About the role

You will work on what is the largest Royal Commission in New Zealand's history and your work will contribute to improving the lives of future generations who are in care. This is very important work and you will derive a huge amount of satisfaction from your contribution.

This is a key strategic role responsible for the IT and information strategies and overseeing the delivery of operational technology.

Office 365 and other basic IT services are provided by the Administering Agency (DIA), with some critical applications managed in house. The CIO is responsible for the delivery of IT related services to the Royal Commission from DIA and is responsible for managing this relationship.

Some critical systems, such as an evidence management system, are yet to be acquired and you will play a significant role in the process of selecting, implementing and managing these systems.

Key to the success of this role includes the following:

  • Experience developing a strategy and operating model
  • Implementing and supporting evidence management and data analysis systems
  • A sound knowledge of and experience managing an Information Management System
  • Building and maintaining a team that provides timely, professional information management advice and services
  • Experience coaching and mentoring direct reports
  • Experience working with Senior Leaders to develop and implement best practice ICT and Information Management policies and procedures

What you'll bring for success:

  • 10 years working at a Senior level in ICT or Information technology
  • Experience scoping and managing large scale or complicated IT implementations
  • The ability to communicate with, and gain the trust and respect across the organisation
  • A proven ability to support IT systems and manage supplier relationships
  • A tertiary qualification in ICT or Information Management
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Confident in culturally and disability inclusive approaches including tikanga Māori
  • Availability to travel throughout New Zealand

About us

The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care was established in February 2018. Over the next four years, the Inquiry will investigate the abuse and neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults who were in the care of State and faith-based institutions in New Zealand between 1950 and 1999 and examine ways to stop further abuse.

The Royal Commission is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Māori Partnership team bring a kaupapa, tikanga and te reo Māori focus to the development of the Inquiry work programme.
