Mō te Tūranga - About the role
The Constitutional and Human Rights team provides advice and representation to the Crown in matters relating to the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act and New Zealand's other domestic and international human rights obligations. The team is responsible for providing advice for the Attorney-General and Solicitor-General on a wide range of issues including public and constitutional law, and charities, and international law issues and conducts a significant amount of civil litigation. The team's key public sector clients include the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Department of Corrections and the New Zealand Police.
We are seeking to appoint a lawyer who has demonstrated public law litigation skills, a strong academic background and an interest in constitutional and human rights law. You will possess strong written and oral communication skills, good judgement, and be able to make sound decisions on complicated and novel areas of law at short notice. You will also be able to demonstrate an ability to deliver highly effective client service while working effectively in a busy team environment.
