Health Promoter (Full time), Smokefree, CM Health at Counties Manukau District Health Board, Auckland

This position is a Core Children's worker under the Children's Act & requires full safety checks completed before any new employee starts


Contribute to achieving a Smokefree Counties Manukau by 2025 and to reducing the persistent population health inequities that are associated with high smoking prevalence rates in Counties Manukau

We have a full time position available which is responsible for providing planning, implementation support and advice to enable a strong Smokefree focus in community setting.

The position has a particular focus on:

Enabling and building capacity within community to improving the rate of cessation support in line with Smokefree Health Promotion, Service Utilisation and Population Health Plans and the Smokefree 2025 vision of Counties Manukau Health
Reducing the persistent population health inequities that are associated with high smoking prevalence rates in Counties Manukau by taking a population health and holistic wellbeing approach that is responsive and client/ whaanau-led
The position will also manage a small caseload as part of CM Health's stop smoking service and will be responsible for providing evidence-based smoking cessation support and addressing holistic wellbeing needs (integrating with wraparound support services) for clients in the community that are referred to the Smokefree Service

The position contributes to the overarching organisational vision of a Smokefree Counties Manukau by 2025 (5% prevalence or less across all groups) and CM Health Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities.

It is important that you are able to hit the ground running so it is essential that you have a recognised health or related tertiary qualification. You will also have extensive knowledge of population health issues and their relation to individual and whaanau. A full driver's licence is essential.

You will need to have experience working with Maaori and/or Pacific peoples, and demonstrated application of quality improvement methods. Smoking cessation experience would also be beneficial, however more important is the ability to learn and develop in this regard, as full training will be provided. The ability to speak Te Reo or a Pacific language would definitely be an advantage.

You will have natural communication skills and a strong ability to relate to people from all walks of life, as well as being a great a motivator, with empathy and patience.

This is a full time role of 40 hours per week Monday to Sunday, with occasional requirements for evening phone calls and or client contacts.
