Job Description

There has never been a more exciting time to work in the transport sector. New technologies such as electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned aircraft are rapidly evolving. We need housing developments, land-use planning, and transport to be more joined-up to create highly liveable places. Transport will play a leading role in meeting ambitious greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets. We also need to make travel safer and healthier, with new approaches to reduce the road toll.

The Ministry of Transport is the government's chief policy adviser on transport. We are a small, collegial agency, working in a fast-paced environment. The Ministry has an important strategic leadership role. Our job is to ensure that our transport system supports a broad range of social economic, and environmental outcomes, and is positively shaping the cities and places we inhabit.

We are looking for a Senior Adviser to join our Strategic Policy and Innovation team. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to a variety of projects across all aspects of the transport system, with a particular focus on new and emerging technologies. Your role will be helping us to understand the trends that will shape the future of transport, and to use those insights to inform our regulatory and investment settings to help us achieve the best possible outcomes for New Zealand.

Our ideal candidate is someone with experience dealing with complex and ambiguous issues, an aptitude for strategic thinking or systems thinking, and a proven track record of getting things done. You'll need strong analytical skills, and the ability to write and communicate effectively. You will have a great attitude, you will be comfortable working in a highly collaborative environment, and you will have a genuine desire to grow your professional skills and experience.

The salary band for this role is $88,386 to $124,781

The Ministry places a strong emphasis on professional development, and you'll receive plenty of support to take ownership of your role.

Join this energetic, motivated agency and make your contribution to New Zealand society, now and in the future.

Please apply through our careers centre including a cover letter and your full CV.
