Policy Graduate or Adviser - Regulatory Policy at Ministry of Transport, Wellington - Wairarapa

Te Manatū Waka, Ministry of Transport is the system leader for the whole of the transport sector whether it's on land, at sea, in the air, or connecting Aotearoa to the world. We are the government's principal adviser on transport policy, regulation and investment and play a crucial role in ensuring the transport system is working to improve the prosperity for New Zealanders.

Ngā whakamārama mō te tūnga | About the opportunity

Our Regulatory Policy team provides strategic design, policy advice and support for the Ministry and the transport sector. The team works closely with government departments, transport agencies and teams in the Ministry to lead a busy work programme of major and minor system changes. The team specialises in addressing challenging and high-profile policy issues that sit across land, aviation, and maritime transport both in New Zealand and internationally. 

This role provides an opportunity for you to start or, broaden your policy experience, delivering reactive and strategic advice, responding to requests from the public and the Minister depending on your understanding of regulatory processes (bills, rule changes, and amendments to regulations). 

You will be part of a busy, welcoming and collaborative team, with lively policy minds and a proven track record of delivery.



Te wāhi ki a koe | What you'll bring

  • Ideally, you will have some experience providing advice in a government or legal setting
  • Legislative experience or a keen interest in this area 
  • The ability to think strategically long term as well as consider the details of how things work in practice 
  • Capability to work collaboratively within the team, across the organisation, and with external stakeholders. 
  • Good writing and organisational skills to balance multiple tasks alone

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range

The salary range is $63,774 - $87,000 per annum. The appointed salary will reflect skills and experience.
