The Team: What we do

The Pain Management Centre is a specialist service based at Burwood Hospital that was established to assist patients coping with persistent and chronic pain. We're a tight-knit interdisciplinary team focusing on patient education and autonomy in the management of chronic pain. We work as a team to help patients reclaim areas of function in their lives that are impacted as a result of chronic pain. The patient population our team serves spans a wide age range, from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds. Such diversity provides a stimulating mix of familiar and novel clinical issues and challenges.

Our success relies on delivering consistent messages about the multifactorial nature of chronic pain and enabling re-engagement in life and productive activity.

We're looking for an NZ Registered Clinical Psychologist to join our team on either a permanent, full-time or part-time basis. The days are hours require for this position are to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Please clearly indicate in your cover letter how many hours per week you are able to undertake.

The Role: Where you fit in

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Utilising your scope of Clinical Psychology to assess, diagnose and work with your patients towards rehabilitation
  • Developing strategies for patients (and their whanau) to manage symptoms and rehabilitate
  • Educating and providing resource to patients and their families/whanau, your clinical team and colleagues in the older persons mental health service
  • The development of management plans in liaison with the interdisciplinary team

Your skills will include the following:

  • New Zealand post graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology (or overseas equivalent)
  • Registration with the New Zealand Psychologist Board and current practicing certificate is essential
  • Experience working with individuals and groups delivering education, biopsychosocial assessment and evidence based psychological therapies

The following experience is also advantageous:

  • Assessment and rehabilitation of people who have chronic pain or other chronic health conditions
  • An understanding of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms relevant to chronic pain
  • An understanding of the key psychological processes underpinning chronic pain conditions and chronic disability
