Are you a qualified educator? Experienced and successful at engaging and motivating young people and adults who have not previously had success with education?
We are looking for someone who has:
  • Experience working with young people and adults who have not previously experienced educational success
  • A good understanding of assessing learning needs and developing individual learning pathway plans.
  • Strong and accurate administrative skills to support their professional work
  • Used student-centred pedagogies that recognise that many of our learners have been previously traumatised by formal education.
  • Experience working with Maori and Pasifika learners.

Join a passionate and committed team working in an environment of challenge and diversity. We offer a structured induction and training programme with ongoing support.

This is an exciting opportunity to support prison-based learners to become better prepared for employment and further education.

Our teams are dedicated to reducing re-offending and you will be responsible for improving educational outcomes for prison learners.

This will be achieved through undertaking education assessments, the development of learning plans, and the effective and efficient delivery of a range of educational programmes. You will also support and motivate sometimes reluctant learners to engage in a variety of education programmes (including e-learning) and activities to help them improve their skills and knowledge, improve their literacy and numeracy skills, work towards achieving New Zealand qualifications, and acquire job search skills.

You will be required to work effectively in a custodial environment - leading by example and maintaining professional boundaries. By interacting closely with key stakeholders, both internal and external, you will be collaborative in sharing information and ensuring outcomes beneficial to the successful rehabilitation of our offenders.

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience assessing and working with young people and adults who have not previously experienced educational success.
  • A tertiary qualification and/or a qualification in adult education.
  • Demonstrated competency in using computer applications including Microsoft Office suite, TEC Literacy and Numeracy Adult Assessment Tool (LNAAT), Pathways Awarua.
  • Strong and accurate administrative skills.
  • Sound knowledge of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.
  • Experience with embedding literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience successfully engaging Maori, Pasifika, and at-risk youth in education.
  • A strengths-based approach that embraces manaakitanga and whanaungatanga.

A full driver's licence is essential for this position. The preferred applicant will demonstrate exceptional communication and organisation skills as well as the ability to influence, inspire and motivate. Make a difference!

All applications must be submitted online by 11:30pm Friday 31 January 2019 via our recruitment system. Emailed applications will NOT be considered.
