Job Description

It takes a special type of person to gather the intelligence that has the potential to save lives and keep New Zealand safe.  Whilst you may never have considered a career in intelligence, you could already be using the qualities we look for.

Soon you could be applying those talents to help keep the nation safe by meeting with a range of contacts and sources to produce high impact intelligence.  Your skills will allow you to interact with people that have very different personalities, beliefs and motivations.   You will need to be able to see beyond someone's past, read their emotions, understand what makes them tick and most importantly, build trust with them where others would struggle to look them in the eye.

This is a challenging role in a high pressure / high stakes environment but if you are quick-witted, a fast learner and able to think on your feet, you will be ready and able to handle whatever the job throws at you.

We're currently recruiting for Operational Intelligence Officers in Auckland, however depending on organisational requirements, some positions may be Wellington-based.

If the sound of the above energises you and you bring the skills, knowledge and attributes below, we would love to hear from you.

Personal attributes:

  • An ability to operate within the Service's values – Collaborative, Courageous, Positive, Driven and Self-aware.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High level of self motivation.
  • Excellent self discipline and personal integrity with an ability to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance.
  • Strong mission focus with a professional, can-do approach.
  • Flexibility and resilience to undertake a wide variety of tasks.

 Qualifications:

  • Either a tertiary qualification OR equivalent life experience.
  • Current full drivers licence.

 Knowledge and Experience:

Successful applicants should be able to demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Experience in motivating, collaborating with and influencing others to achieve results.
  • Ability to deal with confrontational situations.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written with the ability to appeal to a wide audience.
  • Agile thinking.
  • Strong ability to plan a task and see it through to completion with minimal supervision.

Training:

Successful applicants will start with us in June 2018, and will be required to commit to an intensive six month training course which takes place in various locations throughout New Zealand. You will also need to be available to attend an assessment centre at the beginning of September.
