Job Description

If you're looking for the opportunity to make a real difference with your extensive training design and development experience and are looking to take on a new challenge, this might be the change you are looking for.

We're looking for an experienced and talented Training Developer to work in our Operational Training delivery team.  This is a new role within our team who we are relying on to introduce systematic processes and best practice instructional design techniques to support our agency.

At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service, we're not content to watch the world change around us – we need to stay ahead of the curve to make sure we're doing the best we can for New Zealand.  We want to inject some new perspectives, fresh ideas and innovative ways of doing things.  Critical to our success is ensuring our people have the right skills at the right time to do their challenging jobs.

The Training Developer will work with subject matter experts and trainers across the NZSIS to design, develop and assess the effectiveness of a range of operational training programmes that build capability across the organisation. You'll be a key player in this new team working collaboratively across a diverse set of stakeholders. As well as design and development, you'll be responsible for programme review and evaluation.

As an experienced expert in this field, you will have:

  • Significant practical experience in a Training Development role within a systems approach to training environment
  • Significant experience in the design and implementation of training and learning frameworks to meet operational needs
  • Experience in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of operational and/or modularised training material
  • Experience in the application of a systematic approach to the training lifecycle
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills

In the NZSIS, you'll work in a secure environment and have access to information that not everyone is allowed to see – that means you'll need to be able to gain and retain a Top Secret Special security clearance.  The NZIC treats all applications for employment in the strictest confidence and we ask that you maintain a similar level of confidentiality.  You are expected to exercise discretion during the recruitment process and throughout your career.  But trust us, the job is worth it.  In return, we offer:

  • A challenging and rewarding career
  • Competitive salary, appropriate to your qualifications and experience
  • Private medical insurance and vision care benefits
  • A promise that you'll never have to take work home

Every organisation is unique, but the NZ Intelligence Community is beyond ordinary.  Working for the NZSIS is for people who want to make a different, who want to keep New Zealand safe, and who are committed to a job with meaning and purpose.  If this sounds like you, apply now.

A copy of the position description can be found on this page.

Salary range:  $77,497 - $96,872 circa.

How to apply

Applications must include a completed application form, a current CV and cover letter.  These should be sent to careers@nzic.govt.nz quoting reference number D2/17/87 in the subject line of the email.  Only completed applications will be progressed.

Please direct any enquiries regarding this role to careers@nzic.govt.nz.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years.  Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level  security clearance.  Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken.  Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.

Applications close 5pm on Monday, 27 November 2017.
