Job Description

  • Are you looking for a meaningful and rewarding career where you will make a tangible contribution to the security of New Zealand?
  • Do you want to work with a group of people who are passionate about protecting and advancing New Zealand's way of life?

The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) is currently recruiting for an Operations Officer in Auckland. We are looking for a highly talented and professional individual with a range of life experiences to work within this diverse and exciting area of our organisation.

The role of an Operations Officer entails the delivery of critical intelligence between deployed operational teams and key stakeholders in support of national security investigations and operations throughout the country. It would suit someone who is keen to take on a challenging and dynamic role.

Is this for you?

To be successful you will need to be resilient, able to work in a high pressure environment, and be committed and enthusiastic about the role of the NZSIS. You will be comfortable working both in a team environment and alone - your ability to multitask is key in this role. Working in a dynamic operational environment, you will be comfortable managing periods of relative inactivity, together with often unpredictable periods of intense and fast-paced activity. In an ideal world, you will have experience in an operational control centre or communications centre.

You will be able to demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Excellent judgement and decision making
  • A high level of integrity and trustworthiness
  • Outstanding interpersonal and liaison skills
  • A strong sense of team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-management with a good ability to prioritise in the face of a demanding work load
  • An appreciation for technology and the ability to learn new systems
  • An ability to multi task, assess and prioritise information
  • Strong attention to detail and keen observation skills
  • An awareness of, and interest in, current affairs and issues that affect New Zealand on a domestic and international level.

It should be noted that Operations Officers sometimes work unsociable hours. You may be required to work at any time of the day or night. This can be particularly disruptive upon personal lives.

The successful candidate will complete the Operations Officer Training Course.  The training course is challenging and is pass/fail. You must pass the course to be confirmed into an Operations Officer role.

The Reward

Most importantly, the outcomes from your work will have a direct impact on the security and well-being of New Zealand. We also offer a range of benefits that include professional development opportunities.

We are people who come from all walks of life, all ages, and are from many cultures; but we all share common values, and are committed to doing beyond ordinary work everyday to keep New Zealanders safe. Would you like to join us? Apply today!

Salary range: $58,500 - $87,750 circa.
