Job Description

Do you want to make a real difference in the protection of Information Technology (IT) services and assets that are important to keep New Zealand safe and secure? 

The New Zealand Intelligence Community (NZIC) is currently recruiting for two IT Security Advisors in Wellington and Auckland. Working across the NZIC, you will play a vital part in a dynamic and agile team, responsible for improving the protective security capability. 

The functionality of the Information Technology Security unit sits within the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS). Funding for these roles is provided from the NZSIS and Government Communication Security Bureau (GCSB). While both these roles are located within the NZSIS – please note one is a GCSB role seconded into the NZSIS. 

In this position you would:

  • balance our IT security compliance with national security information requirements
  • provide advice on projects throughout the delivery lifecycle
  • mitigate security risks and ensure Certification and Accreditation of systems is managed
  • be a trusted advisor to designated security title holders such as IT Security Managers, Chief Information Security Officers and Chief Security Officers

Your experience in this field will ideally be supported by one of the relevant qualifications we are looking for along with proven knowledge and application of AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009 risk management principles and guidelines.

To be successful in this role you will have knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Experience conducting IT security audits and applying security risk management practices
  • Involvement in systems design, implementation and/or maintenance
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills
  • An ability to deliver to tight deadlines
  • Sound judgement and decision making skills

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years. 

You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken. Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
