The New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) is currently recruiting for Wellington and Auckland based Vetting Analysts. We are looking for talented and professional individuals from diverse backgrounds who have excellent interpersonal skills and a good range of life experience.

NZSIS has a statutory mandate to conduct security vetting in New Zealand on behalf of all government agencies. The role of a Vetting Analyst is to conduct background investigations into nominated government employees and contractors in order to assess suitability to hold a national security clearance.

The Vetting Analyst carries out administrative and analytical work, makes recommendations on the suitability to hold national security clearances and supports the Vetting Officers. They will have sound judgement and the ability to gather, assess and efficiently process information to make evidence based recommendations. They will also need to be discreet and demonstrate the ability to make assessments in a non-judgemental manner. 

To be successful in this role you will need to enjoy working collaboratively to solve problems and make decisions. You will also possess the following qualities:

  • Excellent customer service ethic and skills
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills including the ability to make enquiries by telephone
  • An ability to make well informed and open minded assessments with regard to differing lifestyles, backgrounds and cultures

  • An appreciation for technology and the ability to learn new software
  • Excellent self-management skills with the ability to be flexible and prioritise in the face of a demanding work load
  • An ability to build and maintain effective and productive working relationships at all levels

Salary range: $48,934 - $73,400.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years.  Alternatively you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years. 

You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance.  Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken.  Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
