You will be identifying, assessing and managing personnel security risks as part of the Directorate of Security with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). This is a people focused role which requires continuous engagement with people going through challenging circumstances and determining pathways which will directly affects their lives.
Duties for this role will include:
- Briefing and debriefing command and/or management on existing cases;
- Performing case interviews to understand situations and determine outcomes;
- Writing Security Management Plans to support case decisions;
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to gather information to assist with cases;
- Presenting on subject matter for NZDF personnel, including on camps and bases; and
- Supporting and assisting other team members are required.
Please note: This role will be based in Canterbury, but will require regular travel to other camps and bases as required.

This role requires strong communication skills with the ability to both speak and write succinctly in order to ensure information is clearly understood and applied by a wide range of people at all levels of the organisation.
Ideally, you will also have:
- Experience in undertaking complex investigations, risk identification, assessment, and management processes within a government environment;
- Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Behavioural Science, Security, Policing or proven related experience;
- An understanding and application of relevant policy, procedures, and legislation regarding protective security; and
- The ability to work with discretion and confidentiality, while dealing with a wide range of difficult topics and situations.
Please note: The successful applicant will be required to travel both nationally and internationally.

The Directorate of Defence Security (DDS) provides a sustainable and credible security organisation primarily focussed on NZDF's domestic security environment through the provision of a range of protective security policies, services, products and advice.
DDS's purpose is to protect the NZDF from security threats, vulnerabilities and risks that could cause harm to our people, information and capabilities.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
Higher level Security Clearance:
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have 15 years of verifiable background history in countries where a meaningful background check can be undertaken and assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service.
If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
