Benefits Advisor at NZ Defence Force, Wellington - Wairarapa

Mō te tūnga | About the role

You will be working within a team creating, maintaining and advising on benefits offered by NZDF for both military and civilian personnel as part of the HR Policy, Remuneration and Benefits Directorate with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF).

This is a busy role assisting the Benefits Manager in developing the annual Defence Force Financial Capability Programme and Benefits policies.

Duties for this role will include but are not limited to:

  • Contributing to HR benefits documentation based on legislation and changing requirements;
  • Reviewing existing benefit documents for any amendments;
  • Assisting with implementation of the annual communication and marketing plan and providing input into monthly updates;
  • Representing the Benefits Cell on an as and when required basis, and assisting with the organising of road shows and expos;
  • Managing the Force Financial Hub website in consultation with the Benefits Manager and Force4Families host;
  • Presenting benefits and financial capability information to military and civilian staff; and
  • Assisting the wider team as needed.

Please note: This role requires travel to bases/camps from time to time, and involves activities outside core business hours (including evenings and weekends). A full NZ driver's licence is required.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

You will have previous experience in developing presentations and documentation, with a good command of written English and the ability to draft documents to a high standard. This is a busy role with lots of variety. You are a self-starter and forward-thinker with great people skills.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong people and communication skills;
  • Great attention to detail, excellent time management skills and the ability to adapt with changing priorities and requirements;
  • The ability to simplify information for presentation to a diverse audience;
  • Intermediate or advanced use of MS Office PowerPoint, Word and SharePoint;
  • The ability to learn computer applications quickly and effectively in a work environment;
  • Social media savvy, the ability to market information on different platforms;
  • An NZ Certificate in Financial Services, or equivalent (or willingness to study towards this);
  • Either relevant tertiary qualification or studying towards a tertiary qualification (desired but not essential);
  • Previous experience in an HR benefits environment (desired but not essential); and
  • Ability to work as part of a team and build a good rapport, as well as with key stakeholders and providers.

The HR Policy, Remuneration and Benefits Directorate is responsible for developing strategic remuneration, benefits and HR policy direction for the NZDF.

The directorate ensures that the NZDF is able to be flexible and adaptable in its approach to its remuneration and benefits structures and delivers HR policy, which supports future people capability, whilst maintaining an awareness of the wider state sector direction and practice.

The directorate develops and delivers its work collaboratively, with the benefit of strong military and wider organisational input to support people related decisions.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
