Senior Field Technician at NZ Defence Force, Auckland

As a Senior Field Service Technician within our team, you will provide front line technology hub and spoke services to customers on NZDF Camps and Bases on a day-to-day basis.

Using best practice incident and problem management processes to provide Level 1, Level 2 and some Level 3 support, you will also be responsible for coordinating with service providers to achieve resolution.

Seniors within the team are required to work strategically with stakeholders using high levels of relationship management and influencing - as well as provide peer support including helping more junior members of the team with interpretation of requirements.

This is important work, which is essential to ensuring business continuity.

This position operates Monday to Friday business hours however once you are up to speed, you will be required be available on a rostered basis for 24/7 on-call shifts and will be well-compensated for that.

We are keen to hear from you if you are, a customer focused IT professional with at least a few years of practical experience in end-user computing in a similar sized IT team. 

In addition, you will be someone who enjoys the challenge of dealing with complex technical challenges.

If this sounds like you then please make sure you highlight the following experience in your application:

  • Customer service skills and experience – including strong interpersonal skills;
  • Practical computer troubleshooting skills - 1st, 2nd, and some 3rd level network problems;
  • Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities;
  • WAN/LAN competency;
  • Practical Server knowledge;
  • Strong understanding of Windows OS;
  • Experience supporting Office 365 users;
  • IT skills in desktop hardware and network environments;
  • Ability to work independently and be results oriented, as well as able to work to a flexible schedule;
  • Knowledge of and experience with CITRIX; and
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Azure.

You will have a formal qualification in computer science or an IT related subject. CCNA / CompTIA N+ or similar networking qualification would be an advantage. MCSE and Cloud computing certificate in AWS and/or Azure is desirable.

Please Note: Due to the security clearance requirements for this role, you must have been a NZ Citizen for at least the last 10 years.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
