The Health and Safety Advisor (HAS) is directly responsible to the Operations Manager for providing technical support, guidance, and advice on all Health and Safety matters, Hazardous Substances compliance, and bio-security inspections.
Duties for this role will include:
- The preparation and provision of training in safety, health, environmental protection, and Hazardous Substances management;
- Conducting thorough accident/incident investigations, producing clear and accurate reports, and demonstrating effective follow-up actions to achieve the aim of eliminating repeat accidents/incidents; and
- Assisting Depot Managers with the coordination of unplanned facilities works, including contractors on site to ensure Health and Safety compliance.

The successful applicant will possess application of all regulatory requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act and the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act (as well as related Regulations, Codes of Practice, and Guides).
In addition to this, the successful candidate will also possess:
- Familiarity of commercial and other Government Safety, Health, Environmental protection, and Hazardous Substances compliance policy documentation and framework;
- Previous experience in an on-job OH&S role; and
- Formal civilian or military H&S training or course qualification.

The Health and Safety Advisor is an integral part of the Defence Munitions Management Group (DMMG). DMMG is responsible for the delivery of all depot level logistic functions associated with the safe procurement, introduction into service, inventory management, storage, maintenance, distribution and disposal of all NZDF ammunition, explosives, and associated non-explosive stores.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
Low level Security Clearance
- most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
