Mō te tūnga | About the role

You will be part of a team of Application Specialists that work across our business focused product towers to ensure the operation, minor updates and configuration changes to our SAP modules servicing a wide range of business areas within the NZDF.

Initially assigned to one of our business focused towers, you will have responsibility for the ongoing oversight of a number of critical SAP software modules that operate in a complex ecosystem of ERP to deliver core effect to the end users of the NZDF. These are diverse teams that directly support the overall outputs and outcomes of the NZDF at home and abroad.

As an Application Specialist you will be responsible for the management, configuration and on-going smooth operation of the SAP modules that deliver NZDF end user functions within specified domains. This is a key role that will interact with other members of your team to ensure continuous and timely improvement to the applications used by the NZDF, and ensure the business is able to take advantage of any incremental application improvements provided through regular vendor updates.

You will also be involved in shaping any new Commercial of the Shelf (COTS) applications or services through all stages of the lifecycle, including providing inputs as to how your applications should be enhanced. In addition you will be involved in supporting the consolidation of disparate user groups to alternate centralised platforms.

You will work closely with the wider Service Portfolio and Defence Digital Group teams to deliver solutions that are compliant with the organisations standards, policy and security obligations.

Ideally the candidate would have knowledge of or exposure to a combination of the following:

  • Experience in working within complex Agile ICT environments that includes a wide range of ERP, COTS and bespoke applications, with any exposure to SAP an advantage;
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and support COTS Package software;
  • Ability to work with software vendors to ensure quick resolution to technical or business problems in a timely manner;
  • Work across teams to ensure cost effective and timely plans for the implementation, enhancement and decommissioning of applications in the overall environment;
  • Understanding detailed integration of package software across complex environments and landscapes;
  • Have exposure to Application Decommissioning and Consolidation, including the consolidation of functionality from multiple similar applications to reduce overall application and services footprint;
  • Collaborative interpersonal style, including clear experience in managing customer expectations; and
  • Have a can do attitude that is proactive and customer focused.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
