Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Marae Kaiwhakahaere is responsible for the efficient delivery of office administration management and facilitation of maintenance, planning and coordinating logistical support to the Army Marae and Kura.
You will also be responsible for:
- Coordinating visits and activities to and on the Marae;
- Ensuring the smooth running of Marae on a day to day basis;
- Coordinating the administrative support provided for courses, training and events within the Marae / Kura environment;
- Assisting with ensuring adherence to Ngāti Tūmatauenga Tikanga and Kawa by any persons on the Marae (including tangata whenua / manuhiri); and
- Providing leadership and guidance to the Marae Kaimahi (Assistant).
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
To be successful in this very special role, there are some key skills you must have which include:
- Possessing a thorough understanding of the philosophy of Ngāti Tūmatauenga and history of Rongomaraeroa o Nga Hau e Wha;
- The ability to conduct ceremonial aspects of pōwhiri, poroporoaki and tangi in Te Reo Māori;
- An understanding of the kawa and tikanga variations between iwi throughout New Zealand;
- General office administration/coordination experience;
- A high level of communication, relationship management and leadership skills;
- Excellent organisational and coordination skills: able to handle multiple demands with ease and adapt to changing priorities; and
- Fluency in Te Reo Maori is desirable.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
Low level Security Clearance
- most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
