Virtual Applications and Desktop Engineer at NZ Defence Force, Wellington - Wairarapa

Mō te tūnga | About the role

As one of Engineers working in the Virtual Applications and Desktop team, you will be responsible for providing support for incidents, problems and changes. You will also spend a lot of your day involved in the development of new products and product enhancements as part of a DevOps team. 

From time to time you will also have the opportunity to work with our other product teams to ensure that mutually beneficial goals are achieved.

As part of Defence Digital Group you will use a range of technologies to support 14,000 personnel, many of whom are operating in geographically remote or hostile environments to protect your whanau, your country and our environment from harm.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience

Ideally the candidate would have knowledge of or exposure to a combination of the following:

  • Deployment and management of  Windows virtual Desktop environments;
  • Proficiencies with Citrix Desktop Virtualisation;
  • Involvement in the support of a large-scale Virtual desktop environments and
  • Knowledge of NZISM and ITIL.

Additional skills

  • An IT related degree or certification; and/or;
  • Equivalent experience working in an IT environment; two or more years;
  • Experience with IT Security is advantageous;
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications and or Virtual Desktop technologies is advantageous;
  • Working in an Agile framework;
  • Describing technical solutions to non-technical audiences; and
  • Good Documentation Skills.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
