As the Senior Communications Advisor for Maritime Culture you will be responsible for understanding, coordinating, and delivering key messaging across a range of channels – ashore and at sea. You will support the Principal Advisor in developing and implementing an internal communications strategy.
This is a 12 month fixed term position available in Naval Staff Headquarters as part of the Maritime Culture project team. The Maritime Culture initiative is a people and culture project that is focused on building and strengthening Navy culture.
This role has been created as part of The Maritime Culture initiative. As this is a new role it is an opportunity for you to use your creativity to establish successful and interactive Navy internal communications.
The Maritime Culture initiative is a people and culture project that is focused on building and strengthening Navy culture. As part of the project you may be required to:
- Participate in discussions and working sessions related to communicating the Navy's mission, purpose, values, and identity;
- Identify, develop and establish appropriate processes, standards and process material for new functions;
- Liaise with other parts of NZDF to support coherent processes and ways of working; and
- Participate as a subject matter expert in development / improvement work that relates to internal Navy processes.

We are looking for a creative communicator with a passion for people who can contribute to building a positive and transparent organisational culture for the Navy.
You will be someone with an interest in developing your career in communications. You will have experience in creating and delivering internal communications using a range of mediums. You will have excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to think creatively and tailor your message to the targeted audience.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
Low level Security Clearance
- most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
- is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
