The Security Administrator position falls within New Zealand Defence Intelligence and supports the compliance of security regulations within Defence House in Wellington. It is a role that ensures best security practices are upheld at all times.
The security administrator is responsible for the following:
- Visitor Management – verifying security credentials, recording and monitoring all visitors on site.
- Assisting with Access Control Management.
- Ensuring all equipment and material have Technical Security Counter Measures applied to them.
- Contributing to and deliver of security presentations to New Zealand Defence Force and other Government Agency personnel.
- Production of Security Awareness material.
- Determining the operational status of data depositories.
- Assisting with cross-domain data transfer.
- Assisting with security investigations.
- Ensuring that technical records from monitoring equipment are correctly filed.
- Facilitating access to and the use of communication systems for VIPs.
A key responsibility in this role is being appropriately assertive and directive as required in order to enforce security procedures while dealing with staff, visitors, contractors, and members of the public in a helpful and positive way.

As the preferred candidate, you will possess a mature and professional demeanour capable of engaging meaningfully with all rank of people, military and civilian alike.
You will also exhibit the following skills:
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and especially SharePoint.
- Demonstrated ability to produce written and oral briefings and reports.
Previous exposure to the NZDF or experience in the security field is preferred.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
Higher level Security Clearance
- You must have been an NZ Citizen for at least 10 years. Alternatively, you must hold NZ Permanent Residence or hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for 10 years.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance. Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have 15 years of verifiable background history in countries where a meaningful background check can be undertaken and assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service.
