Defence Science & Technology (DST) provides applied research, exploratory development, and policy studies on science, technology and related areas with application to military technology, force development and operations.
The team are looking for an equally passionate person to join them and share their banter and excitement about the work they do.
The role provides day to day admin support to ensure the smooth operation of the DST which includes being our face to the business.
This means:
- Greeting internal and external guests.
- Monitoring emails and phone queries, answering in a timely and friendly manner.
- Distribution of mail.
You will also support the Operations team on an as needed basis, which can make for busy and varied days.
This is a maternity leave fixed term opportunity, ideally with a start early April for 12 months.
This role is based in Devonport Naval Base. Due to the nature of this role, there is very limited opportunities to work remotely.

Ideally you will have some experience working in a busy office admin role, however we are seeking someone who has fabulous communication skills and a willingness to learn and support the team.
Some other must haves:
- Mindful about what it means to work in a confidential work environment.
- Ready to use initiative, just get things done and be prepared for what comes next.
- Excellent planning and coordination skills.
- Competent with MS Office Suite of products.
- Prepared to be the Team's First Aid officer - if you have a First Aid Cert that would be beneficial, however training will be provided.

Higher Level Security Clearance
- You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
- At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
- You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
