Mō te tūnga | About the role
Watchkeepers have continual oversight of Ohakea air operations on a 24/7 basis and provide regular briefings to the Headquarters Command team. The team is a mixture of civilian and military personnel.
This role is responsible for:
- Coordinating and monitoring all military air operations at Ohakea.
- Coordinating emergency responses for the duration of any incident with defence personnel and external agencies.
- Recording and reporting on significant events and incidence.
- Coordinating air movements, refuelling, and security force support to aircraft
- Acting as the initial Incident Controller in the event of any emergency.

Along with experience managing operational requirements within a similar environment, perhaps working as air crew, air operations or maintenance, logistics or as a communications specialist, you will be comfortable working in a secure environment with access to confidential information.
To be successful in the role, you will have:

Experience with defence capabilities within a military command or air operations centre is desirable.
This role requires shift work on a 24 hour basis, including weekends. Additional compensation will be provided.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:
Higher Level Security Clearance
- You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
- At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last ten (10) years.
- You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
