The purpose of the CFO Portfolio is to support the Government and the New Zealand Defence Force to use resources effectively to deliver an optimised military effect. This is achieved through the provision of strategic financial management services that enable informed, integrated capability decisions.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated team player to join our Finance Business Service Purchasing Team. As a Purchasing Administrator, you will play a key role in delivering accurate, efficient, and timely purchasing of goods and services across the NZDF, ensuring our obligations to suppliers and internal customers are met.
Working closely with NZDF staff across a wide range of units, you will provide purchasing support, guidance, and customer service while developing strong working relationships. This is a varied and people‑focused role, where no two days are the same as you learn our systems, processes, and the broader NZDF environment.
This is an entry‑level role, ideally suited to someone with a strong desire to learn and develop a career in finance or purchasing. Our experienced team will be with you every step of the way with full on‑the‑job training to build your capability and confidence.

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with the NZ Defence Force, you need to meet certain citizenship and residency criteria. Here's what you need to know:
Low Level Security Clearance
- You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
- At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
- You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.
