Overseas Commitments Coordinator - Navy at NZ Defence Force, Auckland
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Mō te tūnga | About the role
Fleet Personnel and Training Organisation (FPTO) is responsible for managing the careers of all uniformed members of the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) and the delivery of induction, leadership, and environment-specific professional training to naval personnel, and in some instances, other members of the NZDF.
This is a key role offering an exceptional opportunity for the right candidate who is ready to step into a dynamic and rewarding challenge.
You will be responsible for the management, coordination, and administration of day-to-day operations, ensuring effective facilitation of RNZN personnel and activities in support of the International Commitments Programme. The role also includes general administration and financial management, and will require you to bring considerable experience and confidence in both areas.
We'll be upfront—this is not a role where you ease in slowly. If you are successful, you will need to hit the ground running, managing priorities and responding to requirements from multiple stakeholders while navigating established systems and processes. There will rarely be a quiet day.
That said, you won't be doing this alone. You'll be joining a highly supportive, friendly, and collaborative team who will guide and support you as you grow into the role and meet its challenges.
Due to the nature of the position, including the need to deliver briefings and meet with colleagues face-to-face, remote working options are limited.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
We are seeking a dynamic and capable all-rounder who is polite, professional, hardworking, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You will be proactive, solutions-focused, and have a strong eye for continuous improvement.
You will be joining a small, friendly, and highly supportive team with extensive knowledge of NZDF policy and how it applies to this role—knowledge you will develop over time with their guidance. Our shared approach is simple: get things right and support our people.
As outlined above, we are looking for someone with seven years' or more experience in a busy administration and finance role. Experience with SAP/SRM and travel booking systems would be an advantage; however, this is not essential, as training will be provided. What's most important is your willingness to learn, as there is a significant amount to take on in this role—making it both exciting and highly rewarding.
You will also bring:
- Exceptional time management, strong attention to detail, and well-developed organisational skills.
- Confidence in your interpersonal and communication abilities, as you will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders where clear, concise communication is essential.
- Advanced proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite, including the ability to produce Excel reports, charts, and data analysis; update and maintain Access database reports; and initiate or amend work applications as required.
