Defence Excellence is a strategic-level sub-unit within the Office of Strategy & Governance focused on embedding a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and organisational excellence across the Defence Force. A key aspect of this is delivering the NZDF's programme of Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement.

The Business Process Improvement Leader is a subject matter expert on Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement methodologies, responsible for day-to-day delivery of key aspects of the Defence Excellence Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement programme.  As the Business Process Improvement Leader, you will facilitate improvement initiatives across the NZDF, train NZDF personnel in Lean Six Sigma continuous improvement methods, tools and techniques, and coach and mentor NZDF personnel to deliver their own improvement initiatives.

Your strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills will enable you to identify and manage risks and issues arising from continuous improvement initiatives in order to minimise their impact and take corrective action. Your strong communication and stakeholder management skills will help to develop and maintain enduring and effective partnerships with senior continuous improvement leaders, and promote the purpose and benefit of a culture of continuous improvement.

You will have minimum of a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, but ideally a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and have a Tertiary qualification in a relevant area, e.g. operations management, strategic management, business/commerce, and/or engineering.

The remuneration band for this position is $83,161 to $102,729, inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
