Job Description

What you will do

You will be part of a team including 3 senior policy analysts, leading the development of high-quality, innovative, evidence-based policy and timely support and advice to senior management and ministers. You will also support less experienced staff through mentoring, coaching and effective leadership of policy development. You will be involved in a variety of interesting policy developments, including shaping legislation, with a strong human service focus and be a highly motivated individual who has a genuine interest in the work that Veterans' Affairs undertakes.

What we need

We want a highly motivated person who has 5+ years experience as a Policy Analyst, preferably in introducing and/or making amendments to legislation. You will possess a clear and strong writing style and will have excellent communication and rapport building skills. We want a supportive team player who is willing to volunteer ideas and work closely with others to achieve results.

Who we are

Veterans' Affairs provides entitlements and services to the men and women who have served New Zealand at a time of war or in operations overseas involving significant risk of harm and eligible family members. We also develop policy advice on the veteran sector, assist with commemorations of significant military anniversaries, and work with non-government organisations that represent veterans as well as maintain and provide memorials for 183 services cemeteries throughout New Zealand.

Why us

This is your opportunity to bring your passion, knowledge and experience to Veterans' Affairs. In return for your knowledge, experience and drive, we can reward you with challenging opportunities working in a supportive, motivated and forward-thinking team and working environment. You'll enjoy the change to do a wide range of policy work, and develop improved policies to address changing needs.

Check out the great benefits for you and your family when you join NZDF!

The remuneration band for this position is $77,105 to $95,248 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution.
