What you will do

As Team Leader Technical Security you will lead a team of technical specialists and manage the Defence Technical Security Installation Programme. This includes managing the installation of electronic security systems and delivering defence technical security services and products to ensure the protection of classified and controlled material. You will provide subject matter expertise in support of the development and review of technical and electronic NZDF security policy, procedures and services.

Your well-developed communication and rapport building skills enables you to liaise with seniors and stakeholders at all levels of an organisation.

Along with your extensive experience in an electronic security related project management role; your background in an operational security environment and experience in the design, engineering, installation and maintenance of electronic security systems will ensure your success in this role.

The Directorate of Defence Security comprises nine functional business units: counter intelligence, security compliance (including Defence Industry), security risk and assurance, security vetting and screening, security policy, security services, security education and training, the security guard force and business intelligence and improvement (BI&I).  Each functional unit contributes a vital role to strengthen the NZDF's ability to secure its information, people, assets and reputation.  We provide a sustainable and credible security organisation primarily focussed on NZDF's domestic security environment through the provision of a wide range of protective security policies, services, products and advice.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last ten years, OR

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.


If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
