Job Description

  • Opportunity to undertake challenging work
  • Learn advanced technologies

  • Develop your experience in electronic warfare

Defence Technology Agency (DTA) is a research and development oriented organisation that provides science and technology solutions to New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). In this position, you will work for the Radio Frequency Electronic Warfare section within the Electronic Warfare group. This section is focused on electronic support measures and electronic countermeasures in the radio frequency range. It provides professional advice to its primary customers who are the Army, Navy and Air force and other NZ government agencies as requested.

We are preferably seeking a person with a few years of relevant experience from within the radio communications industry. The four main areas of experience we are looking for are;

  • high speed digital design with field programmable gate arrays (FPGA)

  • software design languages (Java, C/C++, Python, Labview, Matlab), environments and tools

  • digital signal processing for wideband RF signals

  • RF system design

It would be great to find this experience however we do realise that it is a specialist industry, therefore we will also consider a graduate who holds a tertiary level qualification in engineering or science with a minimum of honours and who has completed a significant research project.

You will be given the opportunity to undertake some challenging project work while really starting to develop your career in what is a niche area.

Within this role you will be liaising across the many levels of NZDF so it's important you are a confident communicator who can adapt your communication style to suit your audience. This is a supportive environment and although you will be part of a team you will also be able to think independently.

Our recent staff satisfaction survey highlighted the top five reasons why working for DTA is a great career decision:

  • Flexible working conditions

  • Colleague friendliness & atmosphere

  • Interesting & exciting project work

  • Working environment & facilities

  • Working with NZDF external customers & suppliers

NZDF offers a range of benefits to civilian staff including life and income protection insurance, five weeks annual leave, generous sick leave provisions, opportunities for professional development and much more.

The salary range for this role is $60,579 - $97,837 and is dependent on the skills and experience you can bring to the role. There is occasional overseas travel with this role and involvement in sea trials.
