Job Description

What you will do

As a Senior Accounting Analyst, you will support the delivery of best practice accounting across the NZDF.  You will be responsible for the maintenance of effective systems to meet NZDF's transactional accounting responsibilities, including fixed assets, tax compliance and reconciliations, internal control and monitoring, and provides advice and information to all customers in respect of accounting transactions and processes.
What we need

A self-starter with refined interpersonal skills, who is experienced in accounting or finance, has excellent financial analysis skills and is experienced with a corporate ERP package (i.e. SAP, Oracle).  We are looking for someone who has a strong working knowledge of internal and external standards, principles, policies, statutes, regulations and NZ Public Sector Financial Management practices.
Your knowledge and understanding of balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset accounting, GST, FBT, WHT and PAYE will be vital to your success in this role, as will your advanced quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and ability to develop and mentor team members.
Your ability to problem solve, meet deadlines, plan work in advance and use initiative are key skills, that will ideally be backed up by a tertiary qualification in accounting or finance.

The Business Processing Group within Defence Commercial Services (DCS) is responsible for the effective management of non SME purchasing, accounts payable, and treasury payment functions as well as transactional accounting and compliance (including fixed assets, payroll accounting, accounts receivable, balance sheet reconciliations, and tax compliance activities).

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
