What you will do

In this new, exciting and diverse role, as a Requirements Manager you will be the subject matter expert on requirements-related methodologies and processes. You will provide support towards the elicitation, analysis and management of Defence requirements in accordance with the Defence Requirements Framework.

Supporting the Capability Branch Project Managers and Capability Integration Leads you will manage requirements throughout the capability life cycle.   You will lead on the development and drafting of requirements to support the acquisition of NZDF capabilities.

You will also work closely with Capability Branch Project Managers and Capability Integration Leads to support the effective implementation of the verification, validation and acceptance processes throughout the Capability Delivery and In Service phases.

This challenging role requires a motivated, big picture thinker with a logical mind and superb analytical skills. You will need an appreciation of requirements development methodologies, the ability to turn insights into solutions, and the desire to deliver results. 

You'll be adaptable, curious, a great problem solver and able to work across various domains, stakeholders and projects with ease to achieve your goal. You'll need a collaborative approach with the ability to understand challenges and communicate easily with different audiences.

You will have outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and enjoy developing strong relationships with stakeholders and building and maintaining trusting relationships with requirements leads and requirements engineers throughout the MOD and NZDF organisations.

Who we are

The Capability Branch provides efficient and effective management of NZDF capability development and delivery; and capability management oversight. Capability Branch provides a single point of accountability for these elements and delivers outputs that enable the delivery of joint effects.  We foster contemporary military specialist knowledge and future thinking, using project and financial management disciplines and providing programme and project quality assurance oversight. 

Capability Branch personnel are required to work as an integrated team with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and other NZDF personnel across all phases of the capability life cycle. Working with all stakeholders, the Capability Branch will deliver capability management excellence to meet the needs of the NZDF. Activity occurs with the gamut of the Capability Management Framework, informed by NZDF operating concepts, Vision, operational experience, environmental scanning, 4YRP and Defence Capital and Capability Plans.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last ten years, OR

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
