Job Description

What you will do
 
As Advisor Commemorations and Heritage you will support the Senior Advisor Commemorations and the Senior Advisor Heritage in the planning, developing, co-ordinating and implementing of commemorative and heritage activities to ensure the appropriate recognition of the New Zealand Defence Force's contribution to New Zealand's history and society.  
You will contribute to the development of policies and plans, undertake research on heritage related activities and advise on commemorative and heritage related matters. Navigating priorities in the planning, coordination and delivery of multiple projects.   
 
What we need
 
We want a proactive and motivated person who can hit the ground running. You will be organised and capable, possess excellent administration and planning skills and be a confident and knowledgeable user of MS Office.  Your exceptional communication and relationship management skills will enable you to build solid working partnerships with external and internal stakeholders.  You will have the ability to communicate confidently with all levels of the organisation from the Office of Chief of Defence Force to internal and external stakeholders.  
You will have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience. You must have a strong interest in NZ military history and solid experience researching, analysing and providing recommendations. 
  
Who we are
 
The Heritage, Commemorations, and Protocol Group supports the achievement of an outcome where the NZDF's contribution – past, present, and future – to NZ history and society is valued and understood. We develop policy, undertake planning and coordinate NZDF support for commemorations, national ceremonial occasions and official visits. As well as providing the NZDF policy and coordination lead for Service Museums and other heritage-related activities.  
We are responsible, on behalf of CDF, for organising the official New Zealand Government participation in all overseas military commemorations, less Gallipoli which is organised by Veterans' Affairs NZ with support from the HCP Group. We also develop policy, plan and coordinate all NZDF activities in support of the WWI centenary, participate in the cross-Departmental Governance structure, and provide personnel and logistic support the Ministry of Culture and Heritage led WWI Centennial Project Office.  
The HCP Group maintains a close working relationship on commemorations with VANZ. It is responsible for managing a range of key NZDF relationships with other Government organisations and external organisations. These include the Ministry of Culture and Heritage and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (for overseas commemorations) as well as the cross-Departmental Steering Groups on the NZ National Commemorations policy and for WWI Commemorations.

The remuneration band for this position is $60,579 to $74,833 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
