Not only will you be joining a team focussed on providing ICT support to NZDF's global operations you will contribute to world leading national security work and gain a unique insight into the intelligence and security sector.

What you will do

The Defence Information and Communication Services Operation Centre (DISOC) Forward Element is a newly established team, who will provide information communication services (ICS) support to NZDF personnel on a 24/7 basis, irrespective of their location, deployment or the device/technology they are using. 

The DISOC Forward Element is a vital team within the NZDF, and CIS Branch.  A primary goal of the Forward Element is to provide improved support to Operations, where we can ensure that our personnel overseas, on deployments and operations get the support they need.

As an Operation Support Technician, within the Forward Element team you will respond, triage, record, report and resolve service incidents and requests in support of deployments, operations and exercises.  

Note that in this role you will be required to work 12hr shifts for 24/7 coverage and the shift pattern comprises 4 x 12  hour shifts (2 days, 2 nights) from 0700-1900hrs and 1900-0700hrs with 4 days off.

What we need

This is the first initiative in a new way of working so we are looking for people who are open to new ways of working and want to help us shape the future culture in CIS Branch.  We require ambitious people who want to make a difference and are willing to work in an agile, active environment.

Being able to build and maintain effective working relationships is important in this role, as is a strong customer service ethic.

In addition you will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • At least  2years' experience in a relevant role in a similar ICT environment;

  • Top notch communication skills including the ability to adapt your style to suit your audience;

  • The ability to handle and resolve challenges in tight time-frames;

  • That you can learn and adapt quickly;

  • Excellent customer service, including the ability to handle customer inquiries and challenging situations;

  • Knowledge of and experience with:

    • CITRIX;

    • Microsoft technologies;

    • Desktop applications;

    • Basic understanding of networks;

    • Technical problem solving;

  • Diagnostics and fault finding


And of course, all of this experience should be backed up with qualifications relevant to and associated with the technology, methodology and processes applied within CIS Branch.  These include Networking Essentials (N+) (or relevant experience) and ITIL v3 Foundations (or relevant experience).

An understanding of military and operations context of service requests would be beneficial to your application however is not essential.

The remuneration range for this position is $61,791 - $76,330, plus base pay loading of 10%, and 4% superannuation contribution from NZDF.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 15 years, OR

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 15 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
