What you will do
As Manager Strategy and Coordination you will hold a pivotal management position within the internal audit leadership team and accountability for the delivery of the strategy, planning, coordination, monitoring, communication and reporting activity of the internal audit function.

Assisting the Chief Internal Auditor with strategic management you will advise and inform on planning, monitoring, reporting and the professional requirements for the function including the continuous development of contemporary audit methodology and tools. You will be the centre of excellence for the audit function.  Working in line with leading practice you will manage the ongoing delivery of our established co-sourced arrangements.
As a people leader you will enjoy developing, coaching and empowering people to deliver exceptional results and play an integral part in the evolution and management of the team development plan. This includes building and managing a graduate recruitment and development programme.

What we need

As an energetic influencer and driver you have the ability to execute delivery against plans and think strategically.  Your adaptability paired with excellent communication skills will enable you to work effectively with executive and senior stakeholders in order to achieve success.  You have polished project management, analytical and problem solving skills and a passion for achieving ‘best in class' audit services, through continuous improvement and excellence.

You'll be experienced in providing strategic and operational input into the effective management of a business unit, experience working in current internal audit functions as well as knowledge of relevant government policy, legislation, public policy, regulations and good practice expectations. You can evaluate risk, make pragmatic business decisions and use effective business management techniques and tools to ensure process improvement and quality assurance.

You will have a tertiary qualification in commerce, accounting, finance law or business and professional membership of the Institute of Internal Auditors is desirable.

The principal purpose of the NZDF Internal Audit function is to provide the Chief of Defence Force, and the Risk and Assurance Committee, with an objective assessment of the adequacy and effectiveness of processes and procedures employed by management to both identify, and manage risk. The function operates as the Third Line of Assurance within the NZDF Risk Management Framework and, in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, provides independent and objective assurance to the Chief of Defence Force and executive management.

The vision of the function is to provide meaningful and insightful assurance services for the NZDF, looking beyond compliance, and being a valued partner for continuous improvement and the management of risk. This vision emphasises assisting the organisation to improve its overall business performance.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
