What you will do
Be a founding member of the newly established dynamic portfolio management office. As the Manager Portfolio Management Office you will lead a team of portfolio specialists responsible for performance monitoring and reporting on the entire portfolio of programmes and projects associated with the multi-billion dollar Defence Estate Regeneration Programme.

You will manage and lead the business activity associated with a portfolio management office and specialist's activities including the mentoring and coaching of the portfolio specialist team. You will work with the Director Portfolio Management Office to ensure the specialist capabilities of the team are utilised for the benefit of both the team and the projects and programmes and deputise for the Director when required.
What we need
We are looking for the ideal person to enhance our wider ‘Estate Performance' team in the Portfolio Management Office. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that is looking at new ways to deliver on a large investment programme, working with industry partners.
We want an energetic and motivated portfolio professional. You will have strong leadership skills and experience with portfolio management within large organisations. Your proven background in establishing and leading high performing teams of specialists will ensure success in this role as will your skill in driving and shaping the design / build experience.  
You have excellent communication and negotiating skills which enable you to influence others within a fast paced environment; and you also possess the ability and skill to maintain close liaisons within and outside the New Zealand Defence Force. The ability to navigate and work fluidly within a fast paced and changing work environment is a must as well as possessing technical and political savvy.
You will have a minimum of 10 years + experience with large and complex portfolios and programmes and the ability to successfully navigate a changing environment.  You will be expert in project management tools PRINCE2 / MSP / P30 certified or equivalent and a Post Graduate qualification in Engineering or business is desirable.  A qualification in Project Management is essential.

NZDF is undertaking a major regeneration and development project across its property and infrastructure estate in order to achieve our overarching strategic aim to deliver an Integrated Defence Force by 2025.  Defence Estate and Infrastructure develop, maintain and manage land, property and infrastructure assets in order to support NZDF military capabilities and all of government outcomes, through the Defence Estate Regeneration Programme. The Defence estate comprises over 81,000ha of land, infrastructure and buildings with a replacement value of $2.8bn. Defence Estate and Infrastructure is gearing up for major reinvestment and recapitalisation work over the coming years to 2025.

The remuneration band for this position is $128,851 to $159,169 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
