What you will do

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is looking for critical thinkers who are able to make sense of strategic military and political developments and communicate their analysis to a range of customers, including senior decision makers. 
Intelligence Production Analyst is the entry level into the Production Analyst career pathway. With regular guidance and training you will be responsible for analysing information, often in a foreign language and drafting classified reports that inform government decision making. You will operate with a significant degree of autonomy as you endeavour to satisfy New Zealand's foreign and defence intelligence needs, and you will see a tangible impact from your work.
 
What we need
 
Our ideal person will have an interest in foreign languages and a willingness to develop a good working knowledge of information and communication technologies. Complementing this, you will receive training in the specialised software applications required to be used in this position.  
You will be working within a tight knit team of dedicated professionals who are experts in a wide range of topics of interest to New Zealand Defence Intelligence and the wider government.  
Successful applicants will have: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong research and analysis skills
  • Aptitude for technical and language training
  • Good general knowledge and an interest in international political, economic and security affairs and the scientific field
  • A broad understanding of New Zealand's Offshore interests
This is a challenging and rewarding role in which no two days will ever be the same

The Production and Outreach Unit's core business involves analysing and translating communications intercept, and producing intelligence end product reports in accordance with Government requirements and cryptologic community standards and practices. We undertake production-related target research and development as well as the maintenance and development of intelligence relationships.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
