Job Description

What you will do

As Manager Audit Intelligence you will hold a pivotal management position within the internal audit leadership team. You will build and deliver data-led analytics capability and continuous monitoring practices. You will build, drive and motivate a high performing team of intelligence analysts. 

As Data Intelligence or Data Science specialist, who has a vast curiosity for data and reaching for excellence, you will also take a lead role in investigative activity, fraud control, and audit work with a systems and data analytics focus.  Your unit will be a driver and implementer of change in a fast paced and contemporary internal audit environment.

You will know how to lead a team whose purpose is to turn information into insight! You will have a natural flare for looking information and asking questions, seeing opportunities for improvement and finding solutions.  You will be leading the way in developing audit analytics, bringing meaning to data using analytics in an audit environment.

You will be highly motivated, driven and excited by the opportunity to build and implement new processes and champion change within a large organisation. You will be experienced in business and governance, comfortable dealing with senior leaders and clear and enthusiastic about the value that you are achieving.   We want a forward thinking contemporary audit professional who is a future focused problem solver with excellent people skills, the desire to deliver a polished product and a passion for continuous improvement.

You will have experience in leading and managing a data analytics team and have in depth knowledge of integration and use of data analytics, data driven tools and techniques. You will have a talent for articulating and communicating the right data story given the business context and target audience.  You will also possess strong project management skills with the ability to coach and empower your team to success.

Ideally you will have 2 – 5 years senior manager experience in a large organisation, hold a relevant tertiary qualification, and be certified as a fraud examiner or hold professional certification in IT audit.

The NZDF Internal Audit function provides the Chief of Defence Force, and the Risk and Assurance Committee, with an objective assessment of the adequacy and effectiveness of processes and procedures employed by management to both identify, and manage risk. The function operates as the Third Line of Assurance within the NZDF Risk Management Framework and, in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, provides independent and objective assurance to the Chief of Defence Force and executive management.

The vision of the function is to provide meaningful and insightful assurance services for the NZDF, looking beyond compliance, and being a valued partner for continuous improvement and the management of risk. This vision emphasises assisting the organisation to improve its overall business performance.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
