Job Description

What you will do

This fixed term position will be part of transforming the Defence Logistics Command (DLC) to a fully integrated and future focused organisation.  This role will work within the Consolidated Logistics Project to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Logistics business and advance NZDF towards logistics excellence.  The Project will deliver a business model with strengthened lines of accountability, additional capacity and fit for purpose systems and processes to appropriately manage equipment in-service and deliver consistent reliable logistics services to customers.

The initial focus for this role will support the Item Configuration Alignment Work Package.  This is a diverse and exciting piece of work that will get you right into how Defence equipment is classified, configured and managed both electronically and physically throughout its entire lifecycle.

You'll be working closely with the business and technology teams to figure out how to standardise and streamline what we do, then to roll out the change and make sure we're getting the anticipated benefits.  Ideally you should have experience delivering process improvement activities hand in hand with organisational, technical and physical change.

What we need

You should feel comfortable;

  • working in a complex environment,
  • building relationships, and
  • engaging with stakeholders and SME's at every level of the organisation.

You'll have loads of different business analysis tools and techniques in your kit bag, especially in areas of business process modelling, improvement and management.  You'll know what works for your audience and be able to plan and deliver workshops that your participants will rave about.

Our ideal candidate is a natural leader, resilient and able to manage ambiguity, with the ability to understand what really matters to our people and bring them along on the journey.  A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position or field is essential.  Experience of the New Zealand Defence force and/or knowledge of logistics and/or Enterprise Resource Planning systems is highly desirable but not essential.

Who we are

The Defence Logistics Command (DLC) is a consolidated organisation that provides logistics excellence to sustain NZDF maritime, land and air operations. DLC provides consolidated logistics support to equip and sustain the three Services to enable them to meet operational outputs now and into the future.

Within this, the Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Centre of Expertise is responsible for ILS policy, processes, advice and assurance provisions for all capability projects and In-Service capabilities.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force is contributing to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.
